ITHACA, N.Y. –
Valerie Vancol (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) and
Taylor Hudson (Victor) each recorded two of Cortland's 10 individual ECAC-qualifying showings at the Cornell University Big Red Invitational.
Vancol finished third in both the shot put at 11.84 meters (38' 10.25") and the discus at 38.96 meters (127' 10"), while Hudson was second in the long jump at 5.69 meters (18' 8") and seventh in the 100-meter hurdles (15.36). Hudson's long jump currently ranks seventh nationally in Div. III.
Diamond Jackson (Farmingville/Sachem East) finished second in the discus with an ECAC distance of 39.36 meters (129' 2"). Her sixth-place shot put of 10.96 meters (35' 11.5") missed the ECAC standard by about two thirds of a meter.
Kailyn Balzano (East Greenbush/Columbia) placed second of 43 in the 800 meters in 2:16.98, an ECAC qualifier by more than three seconds.
Amanda Moore (Massapequa) finished second in the 100-meter dash with an ECAC time of 12.38 seconds.
Hudson was one of three Cortland ECAC qualifiers in the 100-meter hurdles.
Lisa Bodratti (Valatie/Ichabod Crane) finished third out of 23 with a time of 15.01 seconds after running the prelims in 14.73 seconds.
Angelique Jean-Charles (Elmont/Valley Stream) was 12th in 15.77 seconds.
Cortland's other ECAC individual qualifier was
Kelly Hugo (Highland) with her 11th-place height of 3.30 meters (10' 10") in the pole vault.
The 4x100-meter relay of Moore,
Dana Kupiec (Salem),
Africa Harper (Bronx/John F. Kennedy) and
Sarah Bonnell (Norwich) won with an ECAC time of 49.16 seconds. The 4x400-meter relay of Kupiec,
Gabrielle Conant (Tully),
Saige Thomas (Elmira/Elmira Free Academy) and Harper also finished first, although their time of 4:08.36 just missed the ECAC standard of 4:08.00.
Other highlights included
Kiersten Duroe's (Horseheads) third-place time of 1:01.75 in the 400-meter dash and Hudson's fourth-place javelin throw of 33.04 meters (108' 5"), along with Bonnell and
Hannah Anthes (Liverpool) finishing seventh (12.66) and eighth (13.07), respectively, in the 100-meter dash. Moore placed seventh of 40 in the 200 meters (26.28), with Harper eighth (26.44) and Kupiec ninth (26.50).
Kayla Blomback (Orchard Park) finished ninth of 41 in the 1,500 meters (4:49.61).
Cortland will compete at the SUNYAC Championships Friday and Saturday, May 2-3, at Geneseo. The Red Dragons have won the last three conference titles.
