TROY, N.Y. – The Cortland men's outdoor track and field team tied for 12th place out of 57 schools that scored points at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Div. III Championships Thursday and Friday at RPI.
The Red Dragons placed in the top eight in six events and one relay to score 26 total points. Oneonta won the title with 63 points, followed by Bates with 60 points.
Melique Garcia (Watervliet) finished fourth in the 200-meter dash in 21.74 seconds and was fifth in the 100-meter dash in 10.73 seconds.
Mitch Ryan (Plattsburgh/Seton Catholic) finished fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:29.35) and
Andre Green (Watertown/Indian River) placed fifth in the long jump at 7.03 meters (23' 0.75").
Tim Odin (Northport) turned in a sixth-place showing in the 1,500 meters (4:00.41) and
Glen Forsythe (Uniondale) was eighth in the triple jump (14.28 meters – 46' 10.25"). In the 4x800-meter relay,
Charlie Beeler (Manlius/Fayetteville-Manlius),
Chris Landi (Merrick/Calhoun),
Bailey Imbo (Bayport/Bayport-Blue Point) and Odin finished seventh in 7:58.83.
Connor Christopherson (Morrisonville/Saranac) just missed a scoring finish in the decathlon with his ninth-place total of 5,790 points. His scored included more than 700 points in four events – the 100-meter dash (11.42), 110-meter hurdles (15.94), the long jump (6.66 meters – 21' 10.25") and 400-meter dash (52.12).
Cortland will compete at the NCAA Div. III Championships next Thursday through Saturday, May 22-24, at Ohio Wesleyan University. The top 20 performers nationally in each individual event, and the top 16 relays, qualify for nationals. Currently, Forsythe ranks sixth in the triple jump and ninth in the long jump, Garcia is 13th in the 200 meters and 16th in the 100 meters, and
Tom Hopkins (Syracuse/West Genesee) is 15th in the 10,000 meters. The final NCAA participant list will be announced on Sunday.
