Africa Harper finished seventh in the 400-meter dash and eighth in the 200-meter dash
TROY, N.Y. –
Taylor Hudson (Victor) finished second in two field events as Cortland placed sixth out of 61 schools that scored at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Div. III Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The event was held Thursday and Friday at RPI.
The Red Dragons finished with 26 points, 16 by Hudson. MIT won the team title with 56 points, followed by Rowan (44), Ithaca (40), St. Lawrence (35), Ramapo (31), Cortland (26) and Wheaton (Mass.) (25).
Hudson was runner-up in the high jump at 1.69 meters (5' 6.5") and in the long jump at 5.79 meters (19' 0"). She was one of four high jumpers who cleared 1.69 meters, but finished second based on number of misses.
Kayla Koelbel (Bradford, PA/Kings Park (NY)) finished fifth in the heptathlon with 3,844 points. Her top events included a 758-point effort in the 100-meter hurdles (15.65), 672 points in the 200-meter dash (27.49) and 666 points in the high jump (1.54 meters – 5' 0.5").
Kailyn Balzano (East Greenbush/Columbia) finished sixth in the 800 meters (2:17.35), while
Africa Harper (Bronx/John F. Kennedy) was seventh in the 400-meter dash (58.04) and eighth in the 200-meter dash (25.43).
Kelly Hugo (Highland) missed a scoring spot by one place in the pole vault as she tied for ninth at 3.40 meters (11' 1.75").
Cortland will compete at the NCAA Div. III Championships next Thursday through Saturday, May 22-24, at Ohio Wesleyan University. The top 22 performers nationally in each individual event, and the top 16 relays, qualify for nationals. Currently, Hudson ranks fifth in the long jump, eighth in the high jump and 11th in the heptathlon. The final NCAA participant list will be announced on Sunday.
