Cortland Reaches NCAA Div. III Quarters with 19-3 Win vs. Redlands

DRYDEN, N.Y. – Sophomore Erica Geremia (Camillus/West Genesee) registered five goals and three assists and 11 different players scored at least once as nationally top-ranked Cortland defeated Redlands, 19-3, in an NCAA Div. III women's lacrosse tournament third-round game. The game was played at Tompkins Cortland Community College since Cortland's stadium was not available due to commencement.

Cortland improved to 21-0 to extend its school-record winning streak. The Red Dragons will face either Williams (Mass.) or Colby (Maine) in the national quarterfinals Sunday at 1 p.m. Redlands finishes its season at 14-5.

Sophomore Elizabeth LaComb (Syracuse/West Genesee) scored three times and junior Emma Hayes-Hurley (Huntington) and senior Taylor Reh (Miller Place) each finished with two goals for the Red Dragons. Sophomore Tara Monaghan (Stony Point/North Rockland) recorded a goal and two assists, while junior Marilyn Farrell (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius), freshman Kristen Ohberg (Brewster) and sophomore Elise Bennett (Webster/Webster Thomas) each tallied a goal and an assist. In addition, senior Taylor Robinson (Manlius/Fayetteville-Manlius) and sophomore Nicole Bello (Camillus/West Genesee) each scored once and senior Liz Beville (Jamesville/Jamesville-DeWitt) had one assist.
 
K.K. McCaslin finished with two goals and Jacky Craycraft scored once for Redlands. Stephanie Garrett and Allie Hoffler notched one assist each.

In goal for Cortland, sophomore Liz Ingalls (Centerport/St. Anthony's) did not make any saves in the first half as the Red Dragons led 13-1 at the break and limited the Bulldogs to just one first-half shot attempt. Freshman Jaclyn Beshlian (Wantagh) recorded three saves and allowed two goals in the second half. For Redlands, Izzy Baez started in goal and made two saves over the opening 21:08. Gigja Hollyday stopped nine shots and allowed nine goals over the final 38:52.
 
Monaghan and Hayes-Hurley each won three draw controls and Bello won two draws for Cortland. Senior Jessica Lavelle (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius) and Ohberg each registered three of Cortland's 15 caused turnovers, and Monaghan and Robinson led the team with three ground balls apiece. Stephanie Garrett and Sam Keary each won three draws and Ally Leipzig caused four turnovers for Redlands.
 
Cortland struck early with goals by Hayes-Hurley and Reh in the opening 30 seconds. Craycraft put Redlands on the board at the 27:21 mark of the half, but the Red Dragons scored 11 straight goals to end the period. Geremia finished with three of her goals and all three of her assists in the first half.

The teams traded scores to start the second half before Cortland scored five of the game's last six goals.
