Melique Garcia's 15th-place time of 21.70 seconds in the 200-meter dash was less than three tenths of a second behind the qualifying group
DELAWARE, OHIO – Cortland men competed in three events during the first day of competition at the NCAA Div. III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Ohio Wesleyan University.
Melique Garcia (Watervliet) finished in 15th place in the 200-meter dash preliminaries in 21.70 seconds and did not advance to Saturday's finals. He missed the eighth and final qualifying spot by 27 hundredths of a second.
Tom Hopkins (Syracuse/West Genesee) finished 19th in the 10,000 meters in 32:30.35. He was up near the front in the first 5,000 meters before dropping off during the second half of the race.
Glen Forsythe (Uniondale) placed 19th in the long jump with a distance of 6.65 meters (21' 10"). Josh Colbert of Ohio Northern won the event at 7.46 meters (24' 5.75").
Garcia will compete in the 100-meter dash prelims Friday at 7:45 p.m. and Forsythe will compete in the triple jump finals Saturday at noon.
