Ameena Dye was the Red Dragons' top runner with a time of 23:06 over a 6,000-meter course
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. – Cortland finished eighth out of 10 schools in a predominantly Division I field at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Women's Cross Country Invitational. The meet was hosted by Penn State University.
The Red Dragons, ranked seventh in the NCAA Division III Atlantic Region, posted a score of 239 points. The top five finishers were Division I schools, led by Penn State at the top (27) and Syracuse (38) second. Duquesne, Pittsburgh and West Virginia rounded out the top five.
Senior
Ameena Dye (DeWitt/Jamesville-DeWitt) crossed the finish line 60th out of 131 runners with a 6,000-meter time of 23 minutes, six seconds. Junior
Kerri Culhane (Sayville) finished 61st in 23:16 and junior
Kailyn Balzano (East Greenbush/Columbia) was 65th in 23:22.
Juniors
Kayla Blomback (Orchard Park) and
Michelyn Little (Voorheesville/Clayton A. Bouton) finished 70th and 71st, respectively, in 23:25 and 23:28. Sophomore
Allison Schumann (North Salem) placed 85th (24:01) and freshman
Sara Billings (Gansevoort/South Glens Falls) finished 95th (24:32). Unattached runner Kara Foster won the race in 20:57, with Sydney Leiher of Syracuse second in 21:01.
Cortland will compete at the University of Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 20, at noon.
