ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Senior
Nick Marcantonio (Glens Falls) finished in fourth place out of 281 runners to highlight Cortland's performances at the University of Rochester Men's Cross Country Yellowjacket Invitational.
Cortland, ranked 26th nationally in Div. III and fourth in the Atlantic region, finished sixth of 24 schools in the final team standings. Oneonta won with 55 points, followed by Rochester (95), Ithaca (105), RPI (108), Geneseo (111), Cortland (136) and Fredonia (151) in the top seven.
Marcantonio was timed in 26 minutes, 22 seconds over 8,000 meters. RPI's Jacob Andrews won the race in 26:13.
Three other Red Dragons finished in the top 50. Senior
Joe Ray (Bayport/Bayport-Blue Point) placed 13th in 26:51, senior
Jarred Iacovelli (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) was 20th in 27:04 and sophomore
Mitch Ryan (Plattsburgh/Seton Catholic) finished 48th in 27:43.
Rounding out the top seven for Cortland were: sophomore
Alex Hall (Caledonia/Caledonia-Mumford) in 62nd place (27:58); freshman
Jesse Perrone (East Syracuse/East Syracuse Minoa) in 84th place (28:23); and senior
Steven Pungello (Washingtonville) in 88th place (28:26).
Cortland returns to the Rochester area next Saturday to run at Roberts Wesleyan University.
