CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland women's golf team, behind a fourth-place finish by junior Carly Peters (St. James/Smithtown East), finished in third place out of nine schools at the Martin/Wallace Invitational. Cortland hosted the two-day tournament – named for the late Larry Martin '53 and the late Sally Yaeger Wallace '53, both former Red Dragon head coaches – at the Cortland Country Club.

Ithaca won the team title with a score of 627, including a 308 on Sunday. Methodist University of North Carolina was second with a 645 (322-323), followed by Cortland at 671 (340-331) and St. Lawrence at 686 (357-329). Le Moyne, LIU-Post, William Smith, St. John Fisher and Eastern University (Pa.) rounded out the field.

Peters recorded a 78 each day to finish with a 156. Ithaca's Sharon Li earned medalist honors for the second time in three years with a 147. She posted a 74 Saturday and a one-over 73 Sunday. Ithaca's Kimberley Wong was second at 153 (78-75) and Gina Battistone of Methodist finished third at 154 (74-80).

Junior Melissa Rath (East Northport/Northport) tied for 12th place in the 52-golfer field with a 167 (83-84). Senior Samantha Morley (Poughkeepsie/Arlington) and freshman Anna Haley (Drexel Hill, PA/Bonner & Prendergast) tied for 19th place, each with a 171. Morley followed up an 87 Saturday with an 84 Sunday. Haley, an individual entry, recorded an 86 and an 85, including an even-par 36 on the back nine Sunday.

Freshmen Bri Sovring (Liverpool/Cicero-North Syracuse) and Taylor O'Halloran (Staten Island/Notre Dame Academy) tied for 29th place with scores of 184 apiece. Sovring totaled 92 each day, while O'Halloran improved from a 99 Saturday to an 85 Sunday.

Cortland will compete at the Williams College Fall Classic Oct. 4-5.
