Joe Ray was Cortland's third finisher with a fifth-place time of 25:26 over 7,500 meters
OSWEGO, N.Y. – Seniors
Jarred Iacovelli (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) and
Nick Marcantonio (Glens Falls) finished second and third, respectively, to lead Cortland's runners at the season-opening Oswego Don Masterson Men's Cross Country Invitational.
Cortland finished second in the team standings with 41 points, just one point behind the University of Rochester's 40 points. RIT placed third (82) and Oswego was fourth (85) in the 14-team field.
Iacovelli covered the 7,500-meter course in 25 minutes, three seconds, 12 seconds behind race winner Matt Giannino of RIT. Marcantonio crossed the finish line third in 25:12, and senior
Joe Ray (Bayport/Bayport-Blue Point) placed fifth in 25:26.
Sophomore
Mitch Ryan (Plattsburgh/Seton Catholic) turned in a 15th-place finish out of 162 runners in 25:42, followed by senior
Steven Pungello (Washingtonville) in 16th place at 25:48. Rounding out Cortland's top seven finishers were sophomore
Alex Hall (Caledonia/Caledonia-Mumford) in 18th place (25:54) and sophomore
Gabe Rodriguez (Geneseo) in 25th place (26:30).
Cortland will travel to the Penn State Spiked Shoe Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 10:45 a.m.
