OSWEGO, N.Y. – Five Red Dragons finished in the top 15 in a 189-runner field as the Cortland women's cross country team finished second at the season-opening Oswego Pat Peterson Invitational.
RIT won the team title with 28 points, followed by Cortland (54), Ithaca (69) and Rochester (101). A total of 13 teams competed.
Senior
Ameena Dye (DeWitt/Jamesville-DeWitt) finished seventh on the 5,000-meter course in 19 minutes, 15 seconds. RIT's Emma Jones won the race in 18:24. Junior
Kerri Culhane (Sayville) placed eighth in 19:17.
Junior
Michelyn Little (Voorheesville/Clayton A. Bouton) posted a 12th-place finish in 19:27, followed directly by junior
Kayla Blomback (Orchard Park) in 13th place (19:29) and junior
Kailyn Balzano (East Greenbush/Columbia) in 14th place (19:31).
Rounding out the top seven Red Dragon runners were sophomore
Allison Schumann (North Salem) in 35th place (20:11) and freshman
Sara Billings (Gansevoort/South Glens Falls) in 40th place (20:20).
Cortland will travel to the Penn State Spiked Shoe Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 10 a.m., with the men's race to follow at 10:45.
