Cortland Starts Season With Fourth-Place Showing at St. Lawrence Invitational

Melissa Rath carded an 81 each day and finished in 10th place
CANTON, N.Y. – The Cortland women's golf team finished in fourth place out of nine teams at the season-opening, two-day St. Lawrence Invitational. The Red Dragons posted a 333 on Saturday and a 352 on Sunday for a 685. NYU won the tournament with a 625 (319-306), with Ithaca (327-320-647) and St. Lawrence (318-329-647) tying for second place.

Junior Melissa Rath (East Northport/Northport) led the Red Dragons with a 10th-place finish in a field of 49 golfers. She registered an 81 each day for a total of 162. Freshman Anna Haley (Drexel Hill, PA/Bonner & Prendergast) tied for 17th place. She totaled an 85 Saturday and an 89 Sunday for a 174.

Freshman Bri Sovring (Liverpool/Cicero-North Syracuse) tied for 21st place with a 176 that featured an 88 each round. Senior Samantha Morley (Poughkeepsie/Arlington) recorded an 89 and an 94 to finish 28th with a 183 total. Junior Carly Peters (St. James/Smithtown East) posted a 79 Saturday but was disqualified on Sunday.

Cortland will compete at the NYU Invitational next Saturday and Sunday in Suffern.
