Mark Hanifin won the 500-yard freestyle and finished second in the 200-yard freestyle

Mark Hanifin (Fort Plain) registered individual swimming victories during Cortland's 156-119 men's dual-meet loss at Hartwick College.
Callen won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.97 seconds and was second in the 100-yard freestyle (48.30). Hanifin took top honors in the 500-yard freestyle (5:00.03) and placed second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.43).
Junior
Jack Jakubek (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) was the 100-yard breaststroke runner-up in 1:02.67 as he was nipped by only three hundredths of a second. Sophomore
Dylan Burns (Cornwall) finished second in the 100-yard backstroke (55.06), senior
Brandon McManus (Pittsford/Pittsford Mendon) was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:40.49) and senior
Alex Spatzer (Buffalo/Kenmore West) finished second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:04.93).
Cortland finished second in both relays. Burns, Jakubek, McManus and Callen swam the 200-yard medley relay in 1:39.01 and Burns, Callen, Hanifin and senior
Luke Strothenke (New Paltz) finished the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:15.23. In addition, freshman
Jason Rivera (Slate Hill/Minisink Valley) notched first-place points as the lone competitor in both the 1-meter (232.80 pts.) and 3-meter (221.70 pts.) diving events.
Cortland will compete in a dual meet at New Paltz on Friday, January 16, at 4 p.m. and will be at the RPI Invitational the following day at noon.
