Three Cortland Women Double-Winners in Dual-Meet Setback at Hartwick

Chloe Freideman won the 100-yard breaststroke by just under four tenths of a second and finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke
ONEONTA, N.Y. – Senior Krista Caputo (Staten Island/Curtis), junior Chelsey Simon (Oneida) and junior Miranda Fergus (Pleasant Valley/Millbrook) each won two events in Cortland's 158-133 women's swimming and diving dual-meet loss at Hartwick College.

Caputo won the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:06.06) and 500-yard freestyle (5:26.86) and Simon captured both the 200-yard butterfly (2:14.56) and 100-yard butterfly (1:00.64). Fergus recorded the top scores on both 1-meter (258.80 pts.) and 3-meter (263.30 pts.) diving.

Junior Chloe Freideman (Whitney Point) won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:14.08, out-touching her nearest competitor by less than four tenths of a second. The combination of sophomore Angelica Ford (Chicago, IL/Elk Grove Village), Freideman, Simon and senior Lauren Kaplowitz (Stamford, CT/Westhill) won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:57.81.

Freideman also was runner-up in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:43.03) and Kaplowitz placed second in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.55, losing by only three hundredths of a second. Junior Katie Cornetta (Gardner, MA) finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.27) and freshman Jacqueline Lang (Middletown/Pine Bush) earned second-place finishes in both diving events with 156.65 points on the 1-meter board and 162.90 points on the 3-meter board. Caputo, Cornetta, Simon and Kaplowitz finished second in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:51.64).

Cortland will compete in a dual meet at New Paltz on Friday, January 16, at 4 p.m. and will be at the RPI Invitational the following day at noon.
