Miranda Fergus is now Cortland's school record-holder for both six and 11 dives on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards
OSWEGO, N.Y. – Junior
Miranda Fergus (Pleasant Valley/Arlington) broke the school 1-meter diving record for six dives during Cortland's 146-85 women's swimming and diving dual-meet victory at Oswego.
Fergus won the 1-meter competition with a score of 287.15 points, easily eclipsing the previous school mark of 281.05 points set by Laura Landry in 1989. Fergus now holds school diving records on both boards for both six and 11 dives. She set the 3-meter marks earlier this season at the Hamilton Invitational and the 11-dive mark on the 1-meter board two seasons ago.
Fergus also won the 3-meter event at Oswego with a score of 284.75 points and was one of two individual event double-winners for Cortland. Senior
Krista Caputo (Staten Island/Curtis) finished first in both the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:26.94) and 100-yard freestyle (57.21).
Junior
Chelsey Simon (Oneida) won the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.50) and placed second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.08). Sophomore
Emily McGurk (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) won the 200-yard individual medley (2:22.97) and was second in the 100-yard freestyle (58.28), junior
Chloe Freideman (Whitney Point) won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.23) and was runner-up in the 200-yard individual medley (2:24.81), and sophomore
Angelica Ford (Chicago, IL/Elk Grove Village) won the 500-yard freestyle (5:37.48) and touched the wall second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:05.54).
Sophomore
Amanda Grossman (Schaghticoke/Hoosic Valley) won the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.91). Senior
Lauren Kaplowitz (Stamford, CT/Westhill) placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (26.67) and sophomore
Kelly Lambkin (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) was second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.82).
Cortland also turned in the fastest time in both relays. Grossman, Freideman, Simon and junior
Katie Cornetta (Gardner, MA) won the 200-yard medley relay (1:56.00), while McGurk, Cornetta, freshman
Kalee Walden (Dryden) and Kaplowitz had the best time of 1:45.90 in the 200-yard freestyle relay as an exhibition entry.
Cortland is off until Saturday, Jan. 31, when the Red Dragons will host Oneonta in a 1 p.m. dual meet.
