BUFFALO, N.Y. – Senior
Brandon McManus (Pittsford/Pittsford Mendon) won two individual events as Cortland defeated host Buffalo State, 118-104, in dual-meet action. The meet was very recently scheduled as a makeup of the schools' Nov. 21 meet that was postponed due to a big snowstorm in Buffalo.
McManus captured the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:39.00) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:36.18). Senior
Alex Spatzer (Buffalo/Kenmore West) won the 100-yard butterfly (55.49) and finished second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:13.42), while junior
Reeve Callen (Oswego) won the 100-yard freestyle (48.48) and finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (22.39).
Senior
Mark Hanifin (Fort Plain) recorded a victory in the 500-yard freestyle (5:06.84) and placed second in the 100-yard freestyle (49.34). Sophomore
Dylan Burns (Cornwall) won the 100-yard backstroke (55.75) and junior
Jack Jakubek (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) turned in the best time in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.65) as an exhibition entry.
Other individual highlights included: senior
Luke Strothenke (New Paltz) finishing second in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.37) and 100-yard backstroke (59.49); freshman
Brendin Thompson (Pine Bush) placing second in the 400-yard individual medley (4:43.75); junior
Nick Dischiavo (New Hartford) finishing second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.06) as an exhibition entry; and freshman
Jason Rivera (Slate Hill/Minisink Valley) finishing second in 1-meter diving (173.70 points).
Cortland registered the best time in both relays. Burns, Jakubek, Spatzer and freshman
Zachary Healy (Orchard Park) won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:40.98, while freshman
Brian Cremer (Blue Point/Bayport-Blue Point), Jakubek, McManus and Callen swam the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:33.12 as an exhibition entry.
Cortland returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 31 at home versus Oneonta at 1 p.m.
