Cortland Women Register 141-60 Dual Win vs. Bengals

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Juniors Chelsey Simon (Oneida), Katie Cornetta (Gardner, MA) and Miranda Fergus (Pleasant Valley/Millbrook) each won two events as Cortland defeated Buffalo State, 141-60, in a road dual meet. The contest was a recently rescheduled meet that was postponed Nov. 21 due to a big snowstorm in Buffalo.

Simon won the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.44) and 100-yard butterfly (1:00.81), Cornetta captured the 50-yard freestyle (26.17) and 100-yard freestyle (58.22), and Fergus won 1-meter (203.40 points) and 3-meter (226.12 points) diving.

Junior Lexi Kiser (Vestal) won the 400-yard individual medley (4:56.99) and sophomore Amanda Grossman (Schaghticoke/Hoosic Valley) took top honors in the 100-yard backstroke in addition to second place in the 200-yard freestyle (2:06.41). Junior Chloe Freideman (Whitney Point) touched the wall first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.42) as an exhibition entry.

Sophomore Angelica Ford (Chicago, IL/Elk Grove Village) finished second in both the 1,650-yard freestyle (19:24.86) and 500-yard freestyle (5:41.08), the latter with exhibition status. Freshman Jacqueline Lang (Middletown/Pine Bush) posted second-place diving scores on the 1-meter (132.60 points) and 3-meter (146.02 points) boards.

Other Red Dragon individual runners-up included: freshman Kalee Walden (Dryden) in the 50-yard freestyle (27.26); sophomore Emily McGurk (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) in the 100-yard freestyle (59.47); senior Lauren Kaplowitz (Stamford, CT/Westhill) in the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.66); and sophomore Kelly Lambkin (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.20).

Cortland boasted the best times in both relays. Kaplowitz, Lambkin, junior Ally Baraban (Melville/Half Hollow Hills East) and freshman Corey GerberDolan (Amherst, MA/Amherst Regional) won the 200-yard medley relay (1:36.80) and Walden, Cornetta, Gerberdolan and Kaplowitz recorded a time of 1:49.17 as an exhibition entry in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Cortland will host Oneonta on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 1 p.m.
