ITHACA, N.Y. - Cortland won three events, including individual victories by senior
Nick Avossa (Kingston) and junior
Marcus Alston (Wappingers Falls/Roy C. Ketcham), at the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational.
Avossa won the 60-meter hurdles in 8.37 seconds, an ECAC qualifier, followed by sophomore
Kyle Bettex (East Meadow) in third place in 8.57 seconds. Alston beat 41 other competitors to win the 60-meter dash in 7.10 seconds.
Cortland also won the 4x200-meter relay as junior
Keewan Rondinello (Liverpool), junior
Jerel Williams (East Islip), junior
Romain Saint Germain (Westbury) and senior
Melique Garcia (Watervliet) clocked in with an ECAC time of 1:30.33.
Garcia led a group of five Cortland sprinters who finished in the top 10 out of 68 in the 200-meter dash. Garcia was second with an ECAC time of 22.43Â seconds. Alston finished fifth (23.22), Rondinello sixth (23.25), Saint Germain eighth (23.28) and Williams ninth (23.28), with thousandths of a second being used to separate Saint Germain's and Williams' places.
Sophomore
Nick Vachon (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) cleared an ECAC-qualifying height of 1.93 meters (6' 4") to finish fourth in the high jump. Junior
Jimmy Moyer (Oneida) finished seventh in the high jump (1.83 meters - 6' 0") and fourth of 27 in the long jump (6.51 meters - 21' 4.25").
Freshman
Richard Taylor (Westbury) placed second of 27 in the 400 meters in 52.57 seconds, followed by sophomore
Connor Christopherson (Morrisonville/Saranac) in fifth (53.12) and senior
Rob Schenke (Kings Park)Â in eighth (54.01). Sophomore
Bailey Imbo (Bayport/Bayport-Blue Point) and sophomore
Nate Wicks (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) were sixth (2:01.15) and eighth (2:01.97), respectively, in the 800 meters out of 36 runners.
Also for the Red Dragons at Ithaca, senior
Khaaliq Evans (Uniondale) was seventh in the 60-meter dash (7.30, 7.18 prelims), junior
Joe Shinn (New Rochelle) finished sixth in the pole vault (4.05 meters - 13' 3.5"), and the 4x400-meter relay of Rondinello, freshman
Corey Cooper (Edgemont), Taylor and Williams placed fourth (3:28.41). Cortland did not compete in the multi-event (heptathlon) portion of the Ithaca meet.
In addition, the Red Dragons sent a handful of competitors to the Cornell Kane Invitational on Saturday. The top performers were senior
Jarred Iacovelli (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional), who finished third in the mile with an ECAC-qualifying time of 4:19.65, and senior
Nick Marcantonio (Glens Falls), who placed fifth in the 5,000 meters (15:24.14).
The Red Dragons will send competitors to both the Ithaca Invitational and the New Balance Track & Field Center Meet in New York City next week.
