Fergus Eclipses Own 3-Meter Diving Record During Dual Loss to Oneonta

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior Miranda Fergus (Pleasant Valley/Millbrook) shattered her own school 3-meter diving record during the Red Dragons' 143-98 dual-meet loss to visiting Oneonta.

Fergus won the 3-meter board with a six-dive score of 311.65 points. She previously set the school record with a score of 291.10 points at the Hamilton Invitational this past December. Fergus also finished second versus Oneonta in 1-meter diving with a score of 251.10 points.

Senior Krista Caputo (Staten Island/Curtis) won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:00.41 and was runner-up in both the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:21.78) and 500-yard freestyle (5:36.40). Junior Chelsey Simon (Oneida) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:15.61).

Junior Katie Cornetta (Gardner, MA) placed second in both the 50-yard freestyle (26.39) and 100-yard freestyle (57.62). Sophomore Emily McGurk (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) finished second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:21.77). The Red Dragons also finished second in both relays. Sophomore Amanda Grossman (Schaghticoke/Hoosic Valley), junior Chloe Freideman (Whitney Point), Simon and senior Lauren Kaplowitz (Stamford, CT/Westhill) finished the 400-yard medley relay in 4:15.90, while McGurk, Grossman, Cornetta and Kaplowitz swam the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:52.47 and lost by only three hundredths of a second.

Cortland will host Fredonia on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 12 p.m. for its final regular-season meet.
