Nick Avossa finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with an ECAC-qualifying time of 8.63 seconds
ITHACA, N.Y. – Sophomore
Nick Vachon (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) turned in the best Cortland men's indoor high jump in 12 years and was one of three Red Dragons with ECAC-qualifying performances at the Cornell University Southern Tier Open.
Vachon finished second in the high jump at 2.04 meters (6' 8.25"), the best by a Red Dragon indoors since Dan Bryant in 2003. Vachon currently ranks third nationally in Div. III with his effort.
Senior
Melique Garcia (Watervliet) ranks third nationally in the 200-meter dash with his second-place, ECAC-qualifying time of 22.52 seconds. Garcia also placed fifth in the 400-meter dash in 52.81 seconds. Senior
Nick Avossa (Kingston) hit an ECAC mark in the 60-meter hurdles with his fifth-place time of 8.63 seconds.
Junior
Jimmy Moyer (Oneida) finished third in the triple jump at 13.17 meters (43' 2.5"). Junior
Jerel Williams (East Islip) and junior
Romain Saint Germain (Westbury) placed fourth (1:09.09) and fifth (1:09.88), respectively, in the 500 meters, with Saint Germain also 10th in the 200 meters (23.36).
Other Red Dragon highlights included: sophomore
Connor Christopherson (Morrisonville/Saranac) in sixth place in the 60-meter hurdles (8.66); senior
Andre Green (Watertown/Indian River) in 11th place in the 60-meter dash (7.29); and junior
Keewan Rondinello (Liverpool) in 13th place in the 200 meters (23.69).
Cortland will return to Cornell for the Upstate Challenge January 23-24.
