NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Cortland men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened the 2015-16 season with dual-meet losses versus New York University at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan. NYU won the men's meet, 196-90, and the women's meet, 198-94.
For Cortland's men, freshmen divers
Kaleil Balmir (Farmingdale) and
Mark Benitez (Suffern) each earned two top-three finishes. Balmir was second on the 1-meter board (174.90 pts.) and third on the 3-meter board (189.00 pts.), while Benitez finished second on 3-meter (189.15 pts.) and third on 1-meter (166.95 pts.).
Freshman
Tim Thatcher (Staten Island/St. Peter's Boys) earned Cortland's lone top-three swimming showing with a third-place time of 1:53.13 in the 200-yard freestyle.
On the women's side, senior diver
Miranda Fergus (Millbrook) was Cortland's only top-three finisher. She won 1-meter diving with a score of 267.00 pts. and finished second on the 3-meter board with 243.76 points.
Cortland will return to action on Nov. 7 at Ithaca in a 1 p.m. dual meet.
