ELMIRA, N.Y. - Cortland split two matches during Day 2 of the Elmira College Women's Volleyball Invitational to finish 3-1 at the tournament. The Red Dragons lost to the host Soaring Eagles in four sets, but bounced back to beat Wilkes University in a five-set match.
Cortland dropped three tight sets to Elmira as the hosts won 25-23, 27-25, 12-25, 25-22. Sophomore
Janine Patora (Salt Point/Arlington) led the Red Dragons with 15 kills and 15 digs. She finished with a .281 attack percentage and added three blocks. Junior
Samantha Czeczotka (Elwood/John H. Glenn) added 10 kills and nine digs and sophomore
Courtney Silberer (Centereach) registered seven kills, a .312 attack percentage and six blocks.

Liz Roberts (Island Park/West Hempstead) finished with 38 assists and six blocks and junior
Melanie McGuirk (Lido Beach/Kellenberg) had 14 digs.
Natalie Schieder led Elmira (14-10) with 20 kills and 13 digs and Ashley Heiman added 11 kills.
Cortland concluded the tournament with a 25-18, 19-25, 25-20, 22-25, 15-9 win over Wilkes (12-17). Four Red Dragons finished with double-figure kills, led by Czeczotka's 16 kills with just one error in 28 attempts for a .536 attack percentage. She also tallied 19 digs. Silberer had 14 kills and three blocks, Patora totaled 13 kills, 16 digs, two aces and four blocks, and sophomore
Amanda May (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) added 10 kills, four blocks and two aces. May committed just one attack error in 24 attempts for a .375 hitting percentage.
Roberts finished with 54 assists for nearly 11 per set. Sophomore
Nicole Silberer (Centereach) had nine kills, McGuirk ended with a team-high 25 digs, and sophomore
Sarah Piacentini (Webster/Webster Schroeder) led the squad with four aces in addition to notching 17 digs.
Ally Paskas recorded 14 kills and 14 digs and Ellen Mook had 13 kills and six blocks for the Colonels.
Cortland (14-14) will return to action next Friday and Saturday with SUNYAC play at New Paltz. The Red Dragons (3-3 in league play) will conclude its SUNYAC regular-season slate versus New Paltz on Friday and both Plattsburgh and Buffalo State Saturday.
