SEWELL, N.J. – Junior
Mary Baughman (Rush/Rush-Henrietta) finished second out of 229 runners to lead Cortland's nationally 32nd-ranked women's cross country team to a fifth-place finish at the Rowan University Inter-Regional Border Battle.
Cortland ended with 147 points, 17 behind nationally 29th-ranked Haverford, 13 better than The College of New Jersey, and 22 ahead of 20th-ranked Swarthmore. RPI, ranked 21st nationally, won the race with 85 points, 25th-ranked Dickinson was second with 108, and Rochester placed third with 110. A total of 24 teams competed.
Baughman was one of five Red Dragons in the top 50 on the 6,000-meter course in 21 minutes, 20.99 seconds. Swarthmore's Katie McMenamin won in 21:05.87.
Senior
Kailyn Balzano (East Greenbush/Columbia) finished 18th in 21:58.79 and junior
Allison Schumann (North Salem) placed 33rd in 22:18.58. Senior
Kayla Blomback (Orchard Park) crossed the finish line 45th (22:33.42) and senior
Kerri Culhane (Sayville) finished 49th (22:36.62). In addition, sophomore
Megan Wagner (Niskayuna) ended 79th in 23:10.25.
Cortland also had runners compete in the 6,000-meter women's open race. Freshman
Brenna Lyons (Addison) finished 14th (23:37.04) and junior
Danielle Milo (West Islip) was 16th (23:54.29) out of 124 runners.
Cortland will compete at the Cornell University John Reif Memorial on Friday, Oct. 23.
