Andrew Espey finished second overall and was the top official collegiate finisher in the 5,000-meter race
ITHACA, N.Y. – Freshman
Andrew Espey (West Hempstead/Holy Trinity) led six Cortland top-10 finishers in the 5,000-meter men's cross country race at the Cornell University John Reif Memorial Run. The race was held at the Moakley Course at Cornell's Robert Trent Jones Golf Course.
Cortland only entered runners in the 5,000-meter race and did not compete in the 5-mile event. There was no team scoring. Espey finished second overall, and was the top official collegiate finisher, out of 23 runners in 17 minutes, 6.7 seconds. Freshman
Jon Feil (Guilderland) finished less than two seconds behind Espey at 17:08.2. Paul Lovell, an unattached entry from Syracuse University, won the race in 16:54.4.
Junior
Nate Wicks (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) placed fourth in 17:18.9 and junior
Sam Morrett (Cohoes) was seventh in 17:24.1. Freshman
Mike Oleynek (Queensbury) finished ninth (17:54.2) and junior
Nate Ashton (Norwich) was 10th (17:58.5).
Cortland will compete at the SUNYAC Championships next Saturday, Oct. 31, at SUNY Plattsburgh. The men's race is at noon, with the women's race preceding it at 11 a.m.
