MT. MORRIS, N.Y. – Cortland junior
Mitch Ryan (Plattsburgh/Seton Catholic) earned all-region honors and qualified individually for nationals with a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Div. III Atlantic Regional men's cross country meet, hosted by SUNY Geneseo at Letchworth State Park.
Ryan covered the 8,000-meter course in 25 minutes, 29.4 seconds for his second straight all-region honor. He was 22nd at last year's race, with the top 35 runners earning all-region recognition. The top seven finishers not on teams advancing to nationals qualify for individual spots, and Ryan will be either first or second on that list from the region. The NCAA Div. III Championships will be held on Saturday, Nov. 21, in Winneconne, Wis.
Cortland finished 14th out of 41 schools in the final team standings with 433 points. Geneseo (54) and St. Lawrence (68) earned automatic berths into nationals with their first and second-place finishes, respectively. Of the 32 team slots at nationals, 16 are automatic bids (two per region) and 16 are at-large based on regional finish, with no limit of schools from any one region.
