Mitch Ryan (Plattsburgh/Seton Catholic) finished in 109th in the men's race and Red Dragon senior
Kailyn Balzano (East Greenbush/Columbia) placed 129th in the women's race at the 2015 NCAA Div. III Cross Country Championships. The meet was hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh at the Lake Breezee Golf Course in Winneconne.
Both Ryan and Balzano were individual national qualifiers. Ryan finished his 8,000-meter race in 25 minutes, 33.9 seconds. Wisconsin-Platteville's Ian LaMere won the title in 23:35.4. Balzano was clocked in 22:32.3 over 6,000 meters in her race. Cornell College's Abrah Masterson was the women's champion in 21:23.1.
Ryan was in 143rd place at the 1,000-meter mark but moved up to 107th after 2,000 meters and 93rd at nearly the 4,000-meter point of the race. He was 98th nearing 5,000 meters and 103rd at close to 7,000 meters before finishing in 109th.
Balzano persevered despite losing a shoe about 400 meters into the race. She was 60th at the 1,000-meter checkpoint and 53rd after 2,000 meters before dropping off in the second half of the race.
In the team competitions, Wisconsin-Eau Claire won the men's title with 135 points, followed by Williams (144) and Geneseo, while the women's crown went to Williams with 81 points, followed by Geneseo (179) and MIT (182).
