Cortland Earns Eight Individual Victories in 150-130 Dual Win at Buffalo St.

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Cortland posted eight individual event victories, including two wins each by senior Jack Jakubek (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) and freshman Adam Kirchgessner (Irondequoit/West Irondequoit), and the Red Dragons defeated host Buffalo State, 150-130, in a men's swimming and diving dual meet.

Jakubek won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.19) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:24.46), while Kirchgessner captured the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.58) and 200-yard butterfly (2:09.95). Kirchgessner also finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (56.40).

Sophomore Brian Cremer (Blue Point/Bayport-Blue Point) won the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.54) and finished second in the 100-yard freestyle (50.81). Senior Reeve Callen (Oswego) touched the wall first in the 100-yard freestyle (49.22) and was runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle (21.82). Sophomore Brendin Thompson (Middletown/Pine Bush) won the 200-yard backstroke (2:08.15) and junior Jamie Miller (Eden) was the 200-yard individual medley champion (2:11.34).

Senior Mathew Hasbrouck (New Paltz) registered second-place showings in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.75) and 500-yard freestyle (5:18.81), and freshman diver Kaleil Balmir (Farmingdale) was runner-up on the 1-meter (194.40 points) and 3-meter (184.20 points) boards.

Sophomore Zachary Healy (Orchard Park) finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.64) and sophomore Luke Rutigliano (Haworth, NJ/Northern Valley Demarest) placed second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:11.35). The combo of Brendin Thompson, senior Esteban Rodriguez (Hartsdale/Woodlands), Cremer and freshman Paddy Thompson (Middletown/Pine Bush) finished second in the 400-yard medley relay (3:55.52), while Cremer, freshman Tim Thatcher (Staten Island/St. Peter's Boys), Jakubek and Callen posted the second-best time as an exhibition entry in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:32.85).

Cortland will compete at the Hamilton College Invitational on Friday-Saturday, December 4-5.
