UTICA, N.Y. – Cortland won seven events and registered seven ECAC-qualifying performances at Utica College's non-team scoring Jen and Todd Hutton Invitational. The meet was the first held at Utica's new on-campus Sports & Recreation Dome.
Micheal Outing (Farmingdale) and
Storm Malone (Harrison/Highland) took the top two spots in the 60-meter hurdles with ECAC efforts. Outing won in 8.41 seconds and Malone was second in 8.55 seconds.
Dawan Jones (Buffalo/Tapestry Charter) and
C.J. White (Middletown) pulled off the same finish in the triple jump, also with ECAC performances. Jones won the event at 14.05 meters (46' 1.25") and White was second at 13.98 meters (45' 10.5").
Cortland's other ECAC qualifiers were
Charlie Kollmer (Mount Sinai) with a win in the pole vault at 4.50 meters (14' 9"),
Nick Vachon (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) with a second-place height of 1.98 meters (6' 6") in the high jump, and
Zach Meszler (Altamont/Herkimer) with a second-place showing in the 200-meter dash (22.78).
Four other Red Dragons earned event victories.
Jerel Williams (East Islip) won the 400-meter dash (50.98) and
Jon Feil (Guilderland) won the 800 meters (1:59.44).
Mitch Ryan (Plattsburgh/Seton Catholic) captured the mile run (4:27.60) and
Kyle Howe (Scipio Center/Southern Cayuga) won the shot put (13.95 meters - 45' 9.25").
Cortland also recorded six runner-up finishes. In addition to Vachon in the high jump and Meszler in the 200-meter dash, Meszler was also second in the 60-meter dash (7.11) and
Alec Swider (Glenville/Scotia-Glenville) was second in the long jump (6.40 meters - 21' 0"). Mehamid Abdurahim (Rochester/Rush-Henrietta) finished second in the 800 meters (2:02.17) and
Aaron Granger (Delevan/Pioneer) placed second in the mile (4:28.46).
Abdurahim also finished third in the mile (4:29.06) and Jones was third in the long jump (6.38 meters - 20' 11.25").
Romain Saint Germain (Westbury) placed third in the 60-meter dash (7.12) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (23.28). Other Red Dragon top-four finishers were:
Jake Zedack (Mexico) third in the 800 meters (2:02.45);
John Nitterour (Big Flats/Horseheads) third in the 400-meter dash (51.92);
Mike Cruz (West Haverstraw/North Rockland) fourth in the long jump (6.33 meters - 20' 9.25"); and
Corey Fitchett (East Islip) tied for fourth in the pole vault (4.05 meters - 13' 3.5").
Cortland will be off for more than a month before competing January 22-23 at the Cornell Upstate Challenge.
