Dawan Jones finished fifth in the triple jump with an ECAC-qualifying distance of 13.92 meters (45' 8")
ITHACA, N.Y. –
Jack Flood (Blue Point/Bayport-Blue Point) set a school record in the heptathlon and posted two of Cortland's eight ECAC-qualifying efforts as Cortland opened the season at the Cornell University Men's Indoor Track and Field Greg Page Relays.
Flood and
Connor Christopherson (Morrisonville/Saranac) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the heptathlon. Flood's score of 4,923 points eclipsed the previous school record of 4,739 points that Christopherson set last season. Christopherson, in fact, also beat his old school record score with 4,839 points.
Flood's heptathlon performance included a time of 8.59 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles and a high jump of 2.04 meters (6' 8.25"), both ECAC qualifiers. Christopherson also met ECAC standards in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.61 seconds.
Dawan Jones (Buffalo/Tapestry Charter) finished fifth out of 20 in the triple jump with an ECAC distance of 13.92 meters (45' 8").
Nick Vachon (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) tied for eighth of 20 in the high jump with an ECAC height of 1.99 meters (6' 6.25").
Also posting individual ECAC qualifying marks were
Micheal Outing (Farmingdale) and
Storm Malone (Harrison/Highland) in the 60-meter hurdles. Outing was ninth of 23 in 8.38 seconds and Malone placed 11th in 8.65 seconds.
The 4x800-meter relay team of
Jon Feil (Guilderland),
Aaron Granger (Delevan/Pioneer),
Jake Zedack (Mexico) and Mehamid Abdurahim (Rochester/Rush-Henrietta) qualified for ECACs with a fifth-place time of 7:59.93. Also, Granger and Feil finished 17th (1:09.23) and 18th (1:09.71), respectively, in the 500 meters.
Cortland's 4x400-meter relay team of
Jerel Williams (East Islip),
Richard Taylor (Westbury),
John Nitterour (Big Flats/Horseheads) and
Brian Minutolo (Wallkill) finished third (3:29.29). Williams was also seventh of 56 in the 300 meters (35.64).
Mitch Ryan (Plattsburgh/Seton Catholic) placed sixth of 25 in the 3,000 meters in 8:50.91, with
Jesse Perrone (East Syracuse/East Syracuse Minoa) 11th in 9:06.51.
Kyle Howe (Scipio Center/Southern Cayuga) and
Tyler Hochadel (Hamburg/Frontier) each finished in the top 10 out of 23 in the shot put. Howe was seventh at 13.46 meters (44' 2") and Hochadel finished ninth at 12.84 meters (42' 1.5").
C.J. White (Middletown) finished ninth in the triple jump (13.42 meters - 44' 0.5") and
Dante Binotto III (Canajoharie) was ninth in the weight throw (13.44 meters - 44' 1.25").
Three Red Dragons placed in the top half of the field in the long jump. Jones was 12th of 34 at 6.52 meters (21' 4.75"),
Mike Cruz (West Haverstraw/North Rockland) finished 16th (6.19 meters - 20' 3.75") and
Alec Swider (Glenville/Scotia-Glenville) placed 17th (6.18 meters - 20' 3.5").
Also for the Red Dragons,
Zach Meszler (Altamont/Herkimer) was 16th in the 300 meters (36.65) and
Romain Saint Germain (Westbury) finished 19th of 48 in the 60-meter dash (7.19).
Cortland will compete next Saturday, Dec. 12, at the Utica College Jen and Todd Hutton Invitational. The meet will be the first in Utica's new on-campus Sports & Recreation Dome, with an opening ceremony set for 9:30 a.m. and the meet starting at 10:30 a.m.
