Dana Kupiec's 300-meter dash time of 41.79 seconds broke the school record of 42.00 seconds set by Stephanie Bailey in 2003
ITHACA, N.Y. –
Dana Kupiec (Salem) broke the school record in the 300-meter dash and three Red Dragons posted ECAC-qualifying times as Cortland opened the season at the Cornell University Women's Indoor Track and Field Greg Page Relays.
Kupiec finished 11th out of 83 competitors in the 300 meters in 41.79 seconds. The previous school record was 42.00 seconds by Stephanie Bailey in 2003. The event is not held at the ECAC Div. III Championships.
Kayla Koelbel (Bradford, PA/Kings Park (NY)) finished first in the pentathlon with 3,045 points, followed by
Nicole Hofmann (Farmingdale) in second with 2,855 points. During the competition, Koelbel hit an ECAC mark in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.43 seconds.
Cortland's other two ECAC qualifiers were
Angelique Jean-Charles (Elmont/Valley Stream) in the 60-meter hurdles with a sixth-place time of 9.31 seconds in a field of 28, and
Midge Moore (Massapequa) in the 60-meter dash with a 12th-place finish out of 61 in 8.00 seconds.
Four Red Dragons earned top-10 finishes in the 3,000-meter run.
Kailyn Balzano (East Greenbush/Columbia) was fifth of 28 in 10:39.79, followed by
Allison Schumann (North Salem) in sixth (10:42.38),
Kayla Blomback (Orchard Park) in seventh (10:43.50) and
Megan Wagner (Niskayuna) in 10th (10:58.85).
Brenda Perrella (Hamburg/Frontier) finished eighth in the shot put at 11.51 meters (37' 9.25") and 10th in the weight throw at 13.96 meters (45' 9.75").
Jane Martinez (East Lyme, CT) tied for seventh in the pole vault by clearing 3.15 meters (10' 4").
Valerie Moise (Central Islip) placed 14th in the 60-meter dash (8.06) and 19th in the 300 meters (42.58). Other Red Dragon highlights included a 14th-place finish by
Sarah Shellard (Victor) in the 60-meter hurdles (9.98), and 15th-place efforts by
Gabriella Czerw (Holbrook/Sachem North) in the triple jump (10.42 meters - 34' 2.25") and
Raheemah Madany (Bennington, VT/Mount Anthony Union) in the 60-meter dash (8.08).
Cortland will compete next Saturday, Dec. 12, at the Utica College Jen and Todd Hutton Invitational. The meet will be the first in Utica's new on-campus Sports & Recreation Dome, with an opening ceremony set for 9:30 a.m. and the meet starting at 10:30 a.m.
