Kayla Blomback (Orchard Park) broke a 26-year-old school record in the Distance Medley Relay at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational women's indoor track and field meet.
The Red Dragon quartet finished ninth in the race in 12:03.08, eclipsing the previous school record of 12:04.80 set by Patti Zoda, Iris Lopez, Vicki Mitchell and Judy Sparks in 1989. Cortland is currently ranked fourth nationally in Div. III with its time, which also is an ECAC qualifier.
Kupiec finished 47th of 152 in the 400-meter dash in 58.48 seconds, an ECAC qualifier, and she combined with senior
Gabrielle Conant (Tully), sophomore
Christine LaVoie (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius) and freshman
Sydney Chaffee (Norwich) for an ECAC time of 3:59.82 in the 4x400-meter relay.
Balzano finished 48th of 180 in the 800-meter run in 2:14.81, Blomback was 96th of 222 in the mile in 5:11.51 and sophomore
Midge Moore (Massapequa) finished 68th of 230 in the 200-meter dash in 25.71 seconds, all ECAC qualifiers. Senior
Ameena Dye (DeWitt/Jamesville-DeWitt) also hit an ECAC mark with her 43rd-place time of 18:21.80 in the 5,000 meters.
Other notable finishes included LaVoie's 76th-place showing in the 400 meters (59.96) and junior
Kerri Culhane's (Sayville) 110th-place effort in the mile (5:15.18).
Cortland will send competitors to the Cornell Sunday Invitational Feb. 15 at 11 a.m. and will have athletes going next week to both the Ithaca College Bomber Tri-Meet and the 168th Street Armory Meet in New York City.
