Hurdlers Among Top Cortland Men at Cornell Sunday Invitational

Nick Avossa qualified for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles and finished sixth in 8.44 seconds
ITHACA, N.Y. – Six Red Dragons posted ECAC-qualifying efforts, including four in the 60-meter hurdles, at the Cornell University Sunday Invitational men's indoor track and field meet.
 
Joe Shinn (New Rochelle) finished third in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.29 seconds. Nick Avossa (Kingston) was sixth in 8.44 seconds, Kyle Bettex (East Meadow) was ninth in 8.62 seconds and Connor Christopherson (Morrisonville/Saranac) placed 10th in 8.63 seconds.
 
Cortland's other ECAC qualifiers were Marcus Alston (Wappingers Falls/Roy C. Ketcham) in the 60-meter dash with a fourth-place time of 7.06 seconds and Nick Vachon (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) in the high jump with a third-place height of 1.99 meters (6' 6.25").
 
Corey Cooper (Edgemont) finished second of 19 in the 200-meter dash (23.30) and fourth in the 400-meter dash (51.66). Christopherson was eighth in the long jump (6.44 meters – 21' 1.5") and ninth in the 400 meters (52.43) and Khaaliq Evans (Uniondale) finished seventh in the 200 meters (24.01) and ninth in the 60-meter dash (7.21).
 
Other Red Dragon highlights included: Bettex finishing eighth in the 200 meters (24.10); Charlie Kollmer (Mount Sinai) placing eighth in the pole vault (4.20 meters – 13' 9.25"); Dawan Jones (Buffalo/Tapestry Charter) finishing ninth in the long jump (6.39 meters – 20' 11.75"); and Mark Yaeger (Medford/Patchogue-Medford) finishing 10th in the 200 meters (24.62).
 
Cortland will send competitors to meets next weekend at Ithaca and Cornell as well as the 168th Street Armory Meet in New York City.
