Five ECAC-Qualifying Performances for Cortland Men at Deneault Memorial

ITHACA, N.Y. – Four Cortland individuals and one relay team reached ECAC qualifying standards at the Cornell University Deneault Memorial men's indoor track and field meet.

The Red Dragons sent only a small portion of the team to the event since much of the squad participated Friday at either the Ithaca Quad Meet or the Ramapo Roadrunner Tuneup.

Joe Shinn (New Rochelle) tied is own school record in the 60-meter hurdles. He placed second of 17 with an ECAC time of 8.14 seconds and currently ranks fifth nationally in the event. He also competed in the pole vault and finished seventh at 4.35 meters (14' 3.25"), but missed on his three attempts at the ECAC standard of 4.50 meters.

Melique Garcia (Watervliet) finished first out of 27 sprinters in the 200-meter dash in 22.02 seconds, improving his time on the national charts in the process. Garcia clocked in at 21.82 seconds last week at Boston University, but due to the track size that time converts to a slower time than Garcia's 22.02 at Cornell. Garcia currently ranks second nationally in Div. III in the 200.

The 4x800-meter relay team of Charlie Beeler (Manlius/Fayetteville-Manlius), Nate Wicks (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker), Nate Ashton (Norwich) and Bailey Imbo (Bayport/Bayport-Blue Point) finished first with an ECAC-qualifying time of 7:59.46.

Mitch Ryan (Plattsburgh/Seton Catholic) finished fifth of 30 in the 3,000 meters in an ECAC time of 8:43.75 and Nick Vachon (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) cleared an ECAC height of 1.94 meters (6' 4.25") in the high jump to finish eighth out of 16 competitors.

Cortland will compete at the SUNYAC Indoor Championships Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27-28, at Brockport.
