Red Dragon Women Finish Sixth at SUNYAC Swimming and Diving Championships

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Cortland women's swimming and diving team finished in sixth place out of nine schools at the 2015 SUNYAC Championships, which were held at Erie Community College's Burt Flickinger Center.
 
Geneseo won its eighth straight league crown with 953 points, followed by Oneonta (489), New Paltz (481), Fredonia (430), Brockport (420), Cortland (362), Oswego (170), Potsdam (150) and Buffalo St. (137).
 
Senior Krista Caputo (Staten Island/Curtis) finished third in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 18:00.15.  Individual champions at the meet earn first-team All-SUNYAC honors. Second-place and third-place individual finishers are awarded second-team all-league status.
 
Sophomore Angelica Ford (Chicago, IL/Elk Grove Village) placed seventh in the 200-yard backstroke (2:15.25, 2:13.28 in prelimis) and junior Chelsey Simon (Oneida) was eighth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:15.20, 2:14.95 in prelims).
 
Sophomore Amanda Grossman (Schaghticoke/Hoosic Valley) won the "B" final in the 200-yard backstroke (2:15.92) to finish ninth overall. Other Red Dragon individual scorers included: junior Chloe Freideman (Whitney Point) 12th in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:33.93); senior Kara Mance (Poughkeepsie/Arlington) 15th in the 1,650-yard freestyle (19:42.05); sophomore Emily McGurk (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) 15th in the 100-yard freestyle (55.63, 55.36 in prelims); sophomore Kelly Lambkin (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) 15th in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:36.23; 2:35.97 in prelims); and junior Ally Baraban (Melville/Half Hollow Hills East) 16th in the 200-yard backstroke (2:23.41; 2:22.69 in prelims).
 
In Saturday's lone relay event, the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Grossman, McGurk, Caputo and senior Lauren Kaplowitz (Stamford, CT/Westhill) finished in sixth place (3:41.60).
