Miranda Fergus finished seventh on the 1-meter board with 392.50 points, less than two points from a national qualifying spot

Miranda Fergus (Pleasantville/Millbrook) finished seventh of 24 competitors on the 1-meter board and ninth of 24 on the 3-meter board at the NCAA Div. III Region 4 Diving Regional, hosted by SUNY Geneseo. Fergus was not one of the seven qualifiers, picked from the top finishers on each board, for the NCAA Div. III Championships.
Fergus posted a score of 365.70 points on the 3-meter board Friday. On Saturday, she recorded a score of 392.50 points on the 1-meter board. She finished less than two points behind the 1-meter fifth-place finisher, who was one of the final selections for nationals.
Fergus has been a regional qualifier in each of her first three seasons. She advanced to nationals as a sophomore and earned honorable mention All-America honors with a 13th-place national finish on the 1-meter board.
The seven Region 4 qualifiers for nationals this year were: Meghan Bartlett (Fredonia), who finished first on both boards; Nickie Griesemer (Ithaca), the runner-up on both boards; Caroline Gardner (Geneseo) (third on both boards); Anna Belson (Ithaca) (fourth on 3-meter); Barclay Kaku (Carnegie Mellon) (fourth on 1-meter); Danielle Neu (Rochester) (fifth on 3-meter); and Heather Colby (Fredonia) (fifth on 1-meter).
