NEW YORK CITY – The Cortland women's indoor track and field team finished in second place out of 19 schools at the Ramapo College Indoor Select meet. The event was held at the New Balance Track & Field Center at the Armory in Manhattan.
Behind the strength of nine ECAC-qualifying performances, the Red Dragons posted a score of 66.5 points. Division II Texas A&M-Kingsville won with 82 points, followed by Cortland and Moravian (49).
Senior
Taylor Hudson (Victor) finished second of 36 in the long jump at 5.58 meters (18' 3.75") and tied for fourth of 25 in the high jump at 1.60 meters (5' 3"), both ECAC qualifiers. She ranks fifth nationally in Div. III in the long jump with her performance.
Hudson was also one of three Red Dragons to qualify for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles, all of whom met the ECAC standard in the event. Junior
Kayla Koelbel (Bradford, PA/Kings Park (NY)) finished fourth out of 32 competitors in 9.27 seconds. Junior
Angelique Jean-Charles (Elmont/Valley Stream) was sixth in 9.55 seconds (9.41 in prelims), while Hudson registered a time of 9.45 seconds in prelims but did not finish in the finals.

Kailyn Balzano (East Greenbush/Columbia) placed third of 32 in the 800 meters in an ECAC time of 2:17.51. She also ran a leg on the fifth-place 4x400-meter relay team that finished with an ECAC time of 4:02.40. Sophomore
Dana Kupiec (Salem) led off the relay, followed by senior
Gabrielle Conant (Tully), Balzano and freshman
Sydney Chaffee (Norwich).
Kupiec met ECAC standards with her eighth-place time of 59.02 seconds in a field of 40 in the 400-meter dash. Sophomore
Midge Moore (Massapequa) finished fourth of 40 in the 60-meter dash with her ECAC time of 7.91 seconds.
Moore was also fourth of 41 in the 200-meter dash in 26.20 seconds, while Chaffee and Conant finished 15th (1:00.88) and 18th (1:01.17), respectively, in the 400 meters. Cortland took three of the top four spots out of 20 runners in the 3,000 meters. Junior
Kayla Blomback (Orchard Park) was second (10:41.96), junior
Kerri Culhane (Sayville) finished third (10:47.51) and senior
Ameena Dye (DeWitt/Jamesville-DeWitt) placed fourth (10:52.10). Also, freshman
Melissa Emilio (Oneonta) finished 14th in the 800 meters (2:27.07).
Cortland will send competitors to the Boston University Valentine Invitational next Friday-Saturday, Feb. 13-14, and the Cornell Sunday Invitational on Feb. 15.
