Kailyn Balzano posted the second-best time in the 800-meter run to earn a spot in Saturday's finals after entering the event seeded 11th
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Junior
Kailyn Balzano (East Greenbush/Columbia) earned a spot in Saturday's 800-meter run finals during Day 1 of competition at the 2015 NCAA Div. III Women's Indoor Track and Field Championshps. The two-day event is being hosted by Roanoke College at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem.
Balzano entered the national field seeded 11th of 17 runners with an 800-meter time of 2:14.21, but she shattered that performance with her preliminary time of 2:12.08. She finished second in her heat, and had the second-fastest time overall, to advance to the eight-runner finals Saturday at 3:45 p.m. She is basically guaranteed All-America honors as the top eight finishers earn that recognition. The only person faster than Balzano Friday was Misericordia's Amy Viti in 2:11.82.
Senior
Taylor Hudson (Victor) finished ninth of 17 in Friday's long jump finals with a distance of 5.40 meters (17' 8.75"). Wisconsin-Whitewater's Lexie Sondgeroth won the title at 5.74 meters (18' 10"). Hudson missed the eighth and final All-America scoring spot by just over one inch (three centimeters).
Hudson will return to action in the high jump finals Saturday at 10 a.m. She was an All-American in the event last year both indoors (fifth) and outdoor (third).
