SALISBURY, MD. – The nationally 14th-ranked Salisbury women's lacrosse team built an 8-4 lead at the half and held on for a 13-11 win versus second-ranked Cortland Sunday afternoon in non-conference action. The Red Dragons had their 33-game regular-season winning streak snapped and fell to 3-1 on the season. The Sea Gulls, the last team to defeat Cortland in a regular-season contest in 2013, improved to 5-2.

Marilyn Farrell (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius) recorded an assist on the game's final goal for the Red Dragons to become just the fourth player in program history to reach 100 career assists.

Jaclyn Beshlian (Wantagh) did nor make a save in 13:19 of action. Hayes-Hurley and Gentile shared game-high honors with six draw controls each, while Monaghan secured five as Cortland dominated the overall statistic, 17-9. Junior

Kate Haker and Megan Wallenhorst paced Salisbury's offense with four goals and two assists apiece. Kara O'Rourke tallied two goals and two assists, Samantha Duranti recorded two goals and one assist and Hannah Young scored once. Goalie Gianna Falcone turned aside seven shots, Duranti won three draws and Kieran Kelleher caused three turnovers and scooped up three ground balls.
The Gulls opened up a 6-0 lead 17:17 into the game as Haker notched three goals and Wallenhorst scored twice. The Red Dragons answered back with a four-goal run in a 6:22 span to make it a 6-4 game. Ohberg netted three straight goals and Gentile capped the run with her first of the game. Salisbury, however, pushed the lead to 8-4 at the break as Wallenhorst scored at 3:53 and Duranti tallied a goal 57 seconds before the half.
Cortland scored four of the first fivel goals 9:35 into the second half to cut the lead to 9-8. Gentile had two goals during the stretch. The Gulls appeared to have put the game away with four consecutive goals, the last two from O'Rourke, to build a 13-8 advantage with 7:14 remaining. The Red Dragons chipped into the lead as Elmer scored back-to-back goals to make it 13-10, and Farrell set up Hayes-Hurley's score with 40 seconds remaining. Hayes-Hurley won the ensuing draw, but Cortland turned the ball over with 24 seconds on the clock and Salisbury ran out the remaining time to seal the win.
