WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Cortland recorded four ECAC-qualifying performances as the Red Dragons began the women's outdoor track and field season at the Monmouth University Season Opener.
Senior
Valerie Vancol (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) finished fifth in both the discus at 37.57 meters (123' 3") and the shot put at 12.02 meters (39' 5.25"), both ECAC qualifiers. Junior
Angelique Jean-Charles (Elmont/Valley Stream) was fourth (15.58) and junior
Kayla Koelbel (Bradford, PA/Kings Park (NY)) placed sixth (15.77) in the 100-meter hurdles, both with ECAC times.
The Red Dragons took three of the top four spots in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Junior
Michelyn Little (Voorheesville/Clayton A. Bouton) was second in 11:55.15, about five seconds shy of reaching the ECAC qualifying mark. Sophomore
Allison Schumann (North Salem) finished third (12:15.29) and junior
Jackie Boyce (Greenwich) was fourth (12:18.71).
Other top-10 showings by the Red Dragons included:

Kenya Outram (Brooklyn/Victory Collegiate) – 6th place, long jump (4.65 meters – 15' 3.25"), 7th place, 100-meter hurdles (16.12) and 9th place, 100-meter dash (13.13);
Sophomore
Midge Moore (Massapequa) – 6th place, 100-meter dash (12.97) and 8th place, 200-meter dash (26.65);
Freshman
Brenda Perrella (Hamburg/Frontier) – 7th place, discus (34.83 meters – 114' 3") and 8th place, shot put (11.48 meters – 37' 8");
and sophomore
Diamond Jackson (Farmingville/Sachem East) – 6th place, discus (37.17 meters – 121' 11").
Cortland was also scheduled to appear at the Ithaca Invitational Saturday, but that meet was canceled. The Red Dragons will host the Cortland Red Dragon Open next Saturday and will also send competitors to the Princeton Sam Howell Invitational next Friday and Saturday.
