Cortland Women Tie for 12th at ECAC Indoor Championships

Kenya Outram finished third in the 60-meter hurdles at the ECAC Championships
NEW YORK CITY – The Cortland women's indoor track and field team tied for 12th place out of 60 schools that scored points at the 2015 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Div. III Championships. The two-day event was held at The New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory in Manhattan.

Cortland finished with 20 points, matching Amherst's total and separated by less than 10 points from the sixth-place finisher. Buffalo State won the team title with 61 points, followed by Ithaca with 38 and Rochester with 32.

Senior Taylor Hudson (Victor) finished second in the long jump at 5.51 meters (18' 1") and junior Kenya Outram (Brooklyn/Victory Collegiate) was third in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.15 seconds (9.07 in prelims).

Junior Kayla Koelbel (Bradford, PA/Kings Park (NY)) also earned All-ECAC honors, which go to the top-eight finishers in each event, with her third-place score of 3,057 points in the pentathlon. Her top scores came in the 60-meter hurdles with 852 points (9.28 seconds), the high jump with 644 points (1.52 meters – 4' 11.75"), and the 800-meter run with 609 points (2:36.90).

Other Red Dragon highlights included Hudson's 13th-place finish in the 200-meter dash (25.85), junior Angelique Jean-Charles (Elmont/Valley Stream) placing 14th in the 60-meter hurdles (9.34), and sophomore Midge Moore (Massapequa) finishing 14th in the 200 meters (25.86) and 21st in the 60-meter dash (7.99).

In addition to the ECAC meet, Cortland sent a few competitors to the St. Lawrence Fast Chance Meet on Friday. Junior Kailyn Balzano (East Greenbush/Columbia) finished second in the 800 meters (2:14.21), and Balzano, sophomore Dana Kupiec (Salem), freshman Melissa Emilio (Oneonta) and junior Kayla Blomback (Orchard Park) finished second in the Distance Medley Relay (12:12.25).

Cortland will await the announcement of participants for next weekend's NCAA Div. III Championships, which will be held at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C. The final participant list will be posted on NCAA.com Monday by 9 a.m. The top 17 women in each individual event and the top 12 in each relay (4x400 and DMR) qualify for nationals. As of Saturday night, Hudson ranks fourth in both the high jump (1.70 meters – 5' 7") and the long jump (5.77 meters – 18' 11.25"), and Balzano ranks 14th in the 800 meters with her St. Lawrence time of 2:14.21.
