CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cortland posted 15 ECAC-qualifying performances, including two by jumper Dawan Jones (Buffalo/Tapestry Charter), at the two-day Cortland Classic men's outdoor track and field invitational.

Jones finished fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 14.43 meters (47' 4.25") that ranks 10th nationally in Div. III. He also was fourth in the long jump at 6.86 meters (22' 6.25"), one spot behind Jimmy Moyer's (Oneida) third-place 6.91 meters (22' 8"). Moyer was sixth in the triple jump at 13.81 meters (45' 3.75") as he also hit ECAC marks in both events.

Joe Shinn (New Rochelle) won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.22 seconds (15.08 in prelims) and Nick Avossa (Kingston) was fourth in 15.97 seconds (15.61 in prelims). Both of Shinn's times and Avossa's prelim time were ECAC qualifiers. Melique Garcia (Watervliet) placed third of 73 in the 200-meter dash in 21.96 seconds, an ECAC time, and he finished first of 59 in the 100-meter dash in 11.24 seconds (11.09 in prelims), although a head wind contributed to him not reaching ECAC status in that event.

Connor Christopherson (Morrisonville/Saranac) placed second of 17 in the decathlon with 5,932 points and currently ranks sixth on the ECAC qualifying charts. He scored 777 points in the 110-meter hurdles with an ECAC time of 15.61 seconds, and also registered 768 points in the 400 meters (51.03) and 736 points in the 100-meter dash (11.58).

Nick Vachon (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) cleared an ECAC height of 1.98 meters (6' 6") to finish second of 20 in the high jump. Moyer just missed ECAC standard with his fifth-place height of 1.88 meters (6' 2"). Bryce Johnson (Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills West) was fifth in the 400 meters with an ECAC time of 49.42 seconds.

Cortland also recorded four ECAC-level times in relays. The 4x100-meter relay of Jerel Williams (East Islip), Romain Saint Germain (Westbury), Kenenna Emekekwue (Elmont/Sewanhaka) and Garcia finished first in 41.99 seconds, and the 4x800-meter relay squad of Charlie Beeler (Manlius/Fayetteville-Manlius), Nate Wicks (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker), Aaron Granger (Delevan/Pioneer) and Bailey Imbo (Bayport/Bayport-Blue Point) finished second in 8:05.37.

Two different Red Dragon 4x400-meter relay teams posted times that met ECAC standards. Corey Cooper (Edgemont), Richard Taylor (Westbury), Johnson and Williams were second in 3:19.73, while Imbo, Wicks, Granger and Beeler finished sixth in 3:23.73.

Jarred Iacovelli (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) finished first out of 41 runners in the 1,500 meters in 4:03.13. Saint Germain was fourth in the 100-meter dash (11.55, 11.23 prelims), with Williams in sixth (11.77, 11.14 prelims).

Ben Valentine (Rotterdam/Schalmont) placed fourth of 29 in the javelin throw at 45.52 meters (149' 4") and Connor Ten Eyck (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) was fourth in the pole vault at 4.35 meters (14' 3.25"). Other Cortland top-six finishers included Kyle Howe (Scipio Center/Southern Cayuga) in fifth place in the discus at 41.54 meters (136' 3"); Peter Richardson (Syracuse/West Genesee) in fifth place in the 400-meter hurdles (58.50); and Jake Davis (Castleton/Maple Hill) in sixth place in the decathlon (5,489 points).
