PHILADELPHIA, PA. – Seniors
Jarred Iacovelli (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) and
Nick Marcantonio (Glens Falls) and sophomore
Mitch Ryan (Plattsburgh/Seton Catholic) competed in distance races to represent Cortland at The Penn Relays.
The historic meet is held at Franklin Field at the University of Pennsylvania over five days, but Cortland only attended for Thursday night's races.
Iacovelli finished third (9:11.27) and Ryan was seventh (9:19.06) in the collegiate 3,000-meter steeplechase. They were the top two of three Division III competitors in the primarily Division I 18-runner field. Khalil Rmidi Kinini of Maryland-Eastern Shore won the race in 9:02.84.
Iacovelli moved into fourth place on this spring's NCAA Division III chart and Ryan now ranks 11th nationally in the event.
Marcantonio placed 12th out of 30 runners in the 10,000 meters in 30:25.88. He was one of only two Division III runners in the field. Auburn University's Ty McCormack won in 29:21.39. Marcantonio improved on his best time of the season and remains in fifth place in the Division III national rankings.
Cortland will compete at the Cornell Big Red Invitational on Sunday, April 26.
