Carly Peters finished second with a 158 that featured a 76 during the opening day
ITHACA, N.Y. – Junior
Carly Peters (St. James/Smithtown East) finished in second place and was one of five Red Dragons to finish in the top 15 at the two-day Ithaca College Invitational. The tournament was held at The Country Club of Ithaca.
Ithaca won team honors with a 651, followed by Methodist College at 659 and Cortland at 670 in the seven-team field. The Red Dragons trailed Ithaca by only five strokes and Methodist, a perennial national power, by just one stroke after Saturday's opening day. Hamilton, St. John Fisher, Nazareth and Elmira rounded out the field.
Peters carded a four-over 76, including three birdies, on Saturday and scored an 82 on Sunday for a final score of 158. Ithaca's Sharon Li was tournament medalist with a 149 (74-75). Kelsey Baker of Ithaca was third, one stroke behind Peters at 159 (79-80).
Samantha Morley (Poughkeepsie/Arlington), Cortland's lone senior, tied for sixth place in the 41-golfer field with a 166 (79-87).
Melissa Rath (East Northport/Northport) and
Anna Haley (Drexel Hill, PA/Bonner & Prendergast) tied for 10th place, each with a 171. Rath opened with an 87 and scored an 84 Sunday. Haley, an individual entry, improved on her opening-round 90 with an 81 Sunday.
Also for the Red Dragons,
Bri Sovring (Liverpool/Cicero-North Syracuse) finished 13th with a 175 (87-88) and
Taylor O'Halloran (Staten Island/Notre Dame Academy) tied for 19th with a 183 (90-93).
The tournament concludes the season for Cortland as the Red Dragons will not qualify as a team, or individually, for the NCAA Div. III Championships.
