CORTLAND, N.Y. - The nationally second-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team ran out to a 15-0 lead at the half and defeated Augustana College, 21-2, in the third round of the NCAA Div. III Women's Lacrosse Tournament Saturday afternoon at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons improved to 19-1 and advanced to the regional final and national quarterfinals to face the winner of Mount Union versus Catholic, Sunday at 1 p.m. The Vikings had their season end at 19-2.

Tara Monaghan (Stony Point/North Rockland) paced the Cortland offense with five goals and one assist. Sophomore

Jaclyn Beshlian (Wantagh) made three saves in 45:55 for Cortland before giving way to junior
Liz Ingalls (Centerport/St. Anthony's), who stopped one shot over the final 14:05. Hayes-Hurley won eight draw controls, while Monaghan secured five draws.
Senior Hilary Kargl (Louisville, KY/Sacred Heart Academy) tallied both of Augustana's goals with senior Gina Filippo (Green Oaks, IL/Libertyville) and sophomore Anne Hopkins (Chicago, IL/Mother Mcauley) each recording an assist. Junior goalie Jenna Hofmann (Littleton, CO/Columbine) made eight saves in 51:55. Freshman goalie Analia Fowler (Elmhurst, IL/York) did not stop a shot over the final 8:05 of the first half.
The Red Dragons built a 4-0 lead just 3:50 into the game as four different players found the cage. The lead grew to 10-0 before the halfway point of the opening half as Ohberg and Monaghan each chipped in two goals. The advantage became 15-0 at intermission with two more goals coming from Monaghan and Hayes-Hurley netting a pair.
Ohberg and McNerney scored goals to open the second half, and LaComb netted back-to-back goals for a 19-0 Cortland lead at the 14:30 mark. Kargl broke the Vikings' scoreless stretch with her first of the game at 8:05. LaComb tallied her third of the game at 4:26, Kandoth scored her third goal of the season from the free position at 1:10 and Kargl completed the scoring with her team-high 76th goal of the campaign with 51 seconds remaining.
