Jarred Iacovelli turned in the fourth-fastest time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:17.07 and will be one of 14 competitors in Saturday's finals

Jarred Iacovelli (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) advanced to the finals in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and
Nick Marcantonio (Glens Falls) narrowly missed All-America honors in the 10,000-meter run during the opening day of competition at the NCAA Div. III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by St. Lawrence University.
Iacovelli place fourth out of 20 competitors in the steeplechase in 9:17.07. He is one of 14 to advance to the finals Saturady at 12:50 p.m. - the top five in each heat plus the next four fastest times. The top eight finishes Saturday will earn All-America honors.
Marcantonio was nipped at the finish line in a battle for the eighth and final All-America slot in the 10,000 meters. He finished ninth in 31:04.59, a half second behind Cole Decker of Central College. Ian LaMere of Wisconsin-Platteville won the title in 30:45.16 after a photo finish.
Also on Day 1,
Connor Christopherson (Morrisonville/Saranac) sits in 12th place at the halfway point of the decathlon and
Melique Garcia (Watervliet) finished 17th in the 200-meter dash prelims. Christopherson's decathlon score of 3,426 points through five events includes 821 points in the 100-meter dash (11.18) and 802 points in the 400-meter dash (50.28). The final five events will be held Friday at noon. Garcia finished the 200-meter dash in 21.70 seconds and did not advance to Saturday's finals.
Garcia will run in the 100-meter dash prelims Friday at 6:30 p.m. and
Joe Shinn (New Rochelle) will compete in the 110-meter hurdles prelims Friday at 5:30 p.m. in addition to Christopherson's final five decathlon events.
