Connor Christopherson finished 12th out of 20 competitors in the decathlon with 6,243 points

Joe Shinn (New Rochelle) and
Melique Garcia (Watervliet) advanced to the finals in their respective events and
Connor Christopherson (Morrisonville/Saranac) finished 12th in the decathlon during Day 2 of the NCAA Div. III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships at St. Lawrence University.
Shinn finished eighth out of 20 in the preliminaries of the 110-meter hurdles in 14.55 seconds. Nine athletes advanced to the finals - the top person in each heat plus the next six fastest. The finals will be held Satuday at 2:05 p.m., with the top eight finishers earning All-America honors.
Garcia earned a spot in the 100-meter dash finals by two thousandths of a second. He notched the ninth and final spot in Saturday's 2:45 p.m. finals with an official time of 10.95 seconds. DaJahn Lowery of Wesley also finished in 10.95 seconds, but when broken down further Garcia finished in 10.946 seconds to Lowery's 10.948 seconds. The top eight finishers Saturday will be All-Americans.
Christopherson finished 12th of 20 in the decathlon with 6,243 points. Brandon Zarnoth of Wisconsin-Eau Claire won the title with 7.279 points. Christopherson's best scores during Friday's final five events were in the 110-meter hurdles (798 points, 15.43 seconds) and the 1,500-meter run (591 points, 4:54.72).
Competing for Cortland during the final day of action Saturday will be Shinn in the 110-meter hurdles, Garcia in the 100-meter dash, and
Jarred Iacovelli (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase finals (12:50 p.m.). On the women's side, Taylor Hudson (Victor) will be competing in the high jump at 11:30 a.m.
