Mitch Ryan was Cortland's top finisher with a fourth-place time of 26:32 over 8,000 meters
OSWEGO, N.Y. – Junior
Mitch Ryan (Plattsburgh/Seton Catholic) finished fourth out of 114 runners to lead Cortland at the season-opening Oswego Men's Cross Country Invitational.
The Red Dragons placed third out of nine complete teams at the race with 93 points. Geneseo took the team crown with 17 points, followed by Oswego (60), Cortland, SUNY-ESF (99) and Potsdam (162) in the top five.
Ryan completed the 8,000-meter course in 26:32, about nine seconds behind the winner from Geneseo, Isaac Garcia-Cassan. Sophomore
Jesse Perrone (East Syracuse/East Syracuse Minoa) finished 28th overall, and was the 14th scorer, with a time of 27:33.
Cortland's next five finishers were freshmen.
Jake Zedack (Mexico) finished 39th in 28:28,
Christian Yorks (Warwick/Warwick Valley) placed 42nd in 28:42, and
Mehamed Abdurahim (Rochester/Rush-Henrietta) was 47th in 29:11.
Andrew Espey (West Hempstead/Holy Trinity) finished 48th in 29:13 and
Grant Boyd (Newburgh/Newburgh Free Academy) placed 55th in 29:35.
Rounding out the Red Dragon contingent were sophomore
Aaron Granger (Delevan/Pioneer) in 56th place (29:42), freshman
Mike Oleynek (Queensbury) in 57th place (29:44), junior
Nate Ashton (Norwich) in 58th place (29:52), and junior
Sam Morrett (Cohoes) in 69th place (30:48).
Cortland, ranked fifth in the Div. III Atlantic Region and among the "also receiving votes" section in the national poll, will compete at the Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational next Saturday.
