ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The nationally 26th-ranked Cortland women's cross country team finished in fourth place out of 20 teams at the University of Rochester's Yellowjacket Invitational.
Cortland, which is ranked fifth in the Atlantic Region, ended with a team score of 126 points. Div. I Cornell won with 18 points, followed by Rochester (87), RIT (89), Cortland, and Ithaca (143) in the top five.
Senior
Kailyn Balzano (East Greenbush/Columbia) was Cortland's top finisher with a 24th-place time of 23:10 over 6,000 meters. Cornell's Taylor Spillane was the individual champ in 21:32.
Cortland's top seven runners all finished in the top quarter of the 276-runner field. Junior
Mary Baughman (Rush/Rush-Henrietta) was 26th in 23:12, followed by junior
Allison Schumann (North Salem) in 35th in 23:36. Senior
Kerri Culhane (Sayville) placed 43rd (23:52), sophomore
Sara Billings (Gansevoort/South Glens Falls) finished 55th (24:14.4), senior
Kayla Blomback (Orchard Park) was 56th (24:14.9), and senior
Jackie Boyce (Schaghticoke/Greenwich) crossed the finish line in 64th place (24:25).
Cortland will compete next Saturday at Roberts Wesleyan's Harry F. Anderson Invitational.
