Cortland Men Drop 172.5-107.5 Dual-Meet Decision to Visiting Hartwick

Jack Jakubek won the 100-yard breaststroke and swam the breaststroke leg on the winning 200-yard medley relay
CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Cortland men's swimming and diving team returned to action after more than a month layoff and the Red Dragons lost at home to Hartwick College, 172.5-107.5, in dual-meet action.

Reeve Callen (Oswego) won two events and swam the anchor leg on a winning relay. He won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:45.15 and the 500-yard freestyle in 4:57.02. Dylan Burns (Cornwall), Jack Jakubek (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury), Mathew Hasbrouck (New Paltz) and Callen won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:37.83.

In addition, Jakubek was victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:03.03. Kaleil Balmir (Farmingdale) was the lone competitor in both diving events and scored 196.05 points on the 3-meter board and 188.65 points on the 1-meter board.

Burns finished second in the 100-yard backstroke (55.79) and tied for second in the 50-yard freestyle (22.95). Hasbrouck was second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:04.46) and Brian Cremer (Blue Point/Bayport-Blue Point) was runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle (50.53).

Cortland wrapped the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Tim Thatcher (Staten Island/St. Peter's Boys), Hasbrouck, Bailey Eigbrett (Avon) and Cremer were clocked at 1:30.41.

Cortland will host New Paltz on Friday, Jan. 15, at 4 p.m.
