CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Cortland women's swimming and diving team lost to visiting Hartwick College, 162-136, in a home dual meet at Holsten Pool. The Red Dragons were competing for the first time since appearing at the Hamilton Invitational in early December.
Chelsey Simon (Oneida) and
Jackie Bors (Buffalo/North Tonawanda) each posted two victories on the afternoon. Simon won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:16.97 and the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.90, and she also placed second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:35.61). Bors claimed top honors in both 3-meter diving (196.35 pts.) and 1-meter diving (180.60 pts.).
Amanda Grossman (Schaghticoke/Hoosic Valley) won the 50-yard freestyle in 26.33 seconds and was second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.27). Cortland also won the 200-yard medley relay as
Angelica Ford (Elk Grove Village, IL),
Kelly Lambkin (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury),
Natalie Johnson (Canandaigua/Marcus Whitman) and Grossman finished in 1:57.21.
Lambkin and Ford each turned in two swimming runner-up finishes. Lambkin was second in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.76) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:42.23), while Ford touched the wall second in both the 200-yard backstroke (2:19.45) and 200-yard individual medley (2:20.90).
Jacqueline Lang (Middletown/Pine Bush) finished second behind Bors in both the 1-meter (165.85 pts.) and 3-meter (162.80 pts.) diving events. Also for the Red Dragons,
Brianne Munch (East Lyme, CT) was runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle (5:43.16) and Johnson finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.41).
Cortland will host New Paltz on Friday, Jan. 15, at 4 p.m.
