Lee Wade captured top honors in both 1-meter diving (278.00) and 3-meter diving (262.15)
TROY, N.Y. –
Lee Wade (Holtsville/Sachem East) won both diving events as the Cortland men's swimming and diving team turned in a third-place finish out of five schools at the RPI Kumpf Invitational.
The Red Dragons scored 382 points at the meet. RPI won the title with 628.5 points, followed by Ithaca (526.5), Cortland, Clarkson (342) and Skidmore (236). Cortland also went 2-2 in dual-meet scoring at the invitational with wins over Clarkson and Skidmore.
Wade won 1-meter diving with a score of 278.00 points and 3-meter diving at 262.15 points. The Red Dragons earned two other victories at the meet as
Reeve Callen (Oswego) won the 50-yard freestyle (21.59) and the 400-yard freestyle relay team of
Brian Cremer (Blue Point/Bayport-Blue Point),
Dylan Burns (Cornwall),
Mathew Hasbrouck (New Paltz) and Callen was victorious in 3:16.12.
Hasbrouck finished third (2:05.24) and
Adam Kirchgessner (Irondequoit/West Irondequoit) placed fourth (2:10.47) in the 200-yard butterfly. Cremer finished sixth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:11.04) and eighth in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:09.93), Burns was sixth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:08.41), and
Tim Thatcher (Staten Island/St. Peter's Boys) placed eighth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.19). In addition,
Kaleil Balmir (Farmingdale) finished eighth in both 1-meter (183.45 pts.) and 3-meter (181.20 pts.) diving.
Along with Cortland's win in the 400-yard freestyle relay, the Red Dragons also were runner-up in the 400-yard medley relay as Burns, Hasbrouck, Kirchgessner and Callen finished in 3:44.49. Cortland's second 400-yard freestyle relay team of
Jamie Miller (Eden),
Bailey Eigbrett (Avon), Kirchgessner and Thatcher finished in fifth place (3:25.80).
Cortland will host Oswego in a dual meet Wednesday at 4 p.m.
